Problem with “table-cell” in Safari

Once having met the problem, I found anything on the Web. Therefore this might be helpful for someone starting to create their own web-pages in a Web2.0 manner.

As I thought FireFox is the best browser (stop holywar :), firstly I created pages that are rendered perfectly in FireFox. What is great: all other browsers (of course except for buggy IE6) rendered pages in the same way. But then, as ‘div’ markup became popular, I tried to change the way of creating web-pages. Of course sometimes this suits me best. The idea is to use display: table-cell; declaration instead of old float: left.

But Safari is the one, that thinks different. While “all” browsers rendered page correctly, Safari put any div randomly on the top of the page. The solution is to add another div width display: table-row; declaration so that Safari start render everything perfectly.

Keep it simple

Recently I realized that to post something to your weblog you have to be stupid enough. I mean that you must behave yourself like a person who knows everything and nothing at the same time.

This is a really big problem. It’s very easy to write something, when you know what to write about, when you receive feedback from subscribers etc. But how to write, when you don’t know the demands of people reading your blog? And is it possible to define who is reading blog at list twice a week and who come only to read another google provided article?

And the problem I actually have to solve is that when I don’t know something, I’m trying to learn it. But when I learnd something, it seems that everyone knew it years ago, and your post couldn’t help someone.

How can bloggers improve this? Is there any simple approach? Is it difficult? This is what I’d like to discuss. I appreciate any thoughts.

Contrasts in Design

Human eye can complete some forms (according to our imagination) in order to understand them better. But eyes do not always interpret things as they are. Classic example: “MWA” on bright background seems to be darker than on a grey one, while both “MWA"s have the same font color.

FCKeditor implementation in ExpressionEngine

FCKeditor probably is the most flexible WYSIWYG editor. The way I implemented it is not the easiest way, but it works perfectly. This tutorial is for advanced php users, who understand what does each line mean, but beginners can simply copy php code listed below and edit two files.

SEO tips for ExpressionEngine

SpiderWhen I installed ExpressionEngine for the first time on my site, I wondered about no possibility to insert dynamic keywords and description meta-tags. By saying dynamic i mean that all this tags must be different in every post.

Meta tags help search crowlers to identify the pages they are analyzing. Of course it’s not the only way crowlers understand what your page is about, but it’s the primary thing you should do in order to promote your web-site.

Inserting static tags, which would be same at all pages is very bad. Google warns you about pages having same descriptions and some crawlers don’t scan these pages (or scan merely). So 4 lines of extracode and one plugin solved my problem.
